IELTS stands for the International English Language Testing System, and it is run by the British Council and IDP.

There are two versionsGeneral, usually for immigration, and Academic, usually for attending a university. If you don’t know which version you should take, contact the institution or organization that is asking you to take the test.

IELTS has four sections: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.

The first three usually take place in the morning, and take about 3 hours. The Speaking test may be the same day, or it might be scheduled in the 7 days before or after the exam date.
