Video: 8+ Speaking Part 2 Math Skills in Primary School

Could you do an IELTS Speaking Part 2 about math skills in primary school? Today, I will!

speaking part 2 math skills

Recently, a YouTube subscriber to our IELTS Energy TV channel asked me to talk about this topic- math skills I learned in primary school.

Firstly, on a vocabulary note, “primary school” is British English, while Americans, like me, say “elementary school”.

I also say “high school”, while they would say “secondary school”, and you could further replace “university” with the more high-leveltertiary”.

Now, as to this Part 2 topic, you could tell a story related to it, such as about a math teacher or a particular class or lesson you remember.

However, elementary school was a long time ago for me (!), so I chose to brainstorm about how I use these simple skills now.

The point is, it would be nearly impossible to just talk about a skill by itself for a whole two minutes.

  • Second grade, times tables
  • Later, fractions, percentages
  • Work- time sheets, salary sales goals, marketing statistics, student data
  • Personal- overhead- budgets- rent, food, son’s soccer uniforms, registration fees, field trips, movies, activities with friends, birthday gifts like family experiences at trampoline park
