Reading

MC is almost always on the IELTS Reading Exam. Follow this strategy:

  1. Underline key words in the question and the possible answers.
  2. Scan for one or two key words.
  3. Compare to the possible answers.
  4. Cross off wrong answers. Don’t only look for the one correct answer.

Be award of distractors.

Nearly all of the possible answers will have at least one key word that matches something in the text.

Don’t choose an answer because only part of it matches. Make sure that the whole answer matches the passage.

Listening

This is the toughest Listening question type!

You have time to look at the questions before you listen; however, with multiple choice, you may not be able to read the question and all the answers before the speakers begin talking.

So, this is your strategy:

  1. Before you listen, read as much as you can of the questions and possible answers. Underline key words.
  2. While you listen, you must track the key words with your pencil.
  3. Also, try to look at the remaining answers you didn’t get to before, and underline key words.
  4. When you hear the key word from the question, you know the answer is coming.
  5. Don’t only listen for the right answer. That’s too hard. Be active. Cross off wrong or impossible answers while you listen.
