Be a More Spontaneous English Speaker for IELTS

Today you’l learn how to be a more spontaneous English speaker for IELTS.

Why should you be better at spontaneous speaking?

Because you do not want to sound rehearsed on the IELTS Speaking Exam. That leads to band score 6.

The magic key to a 7 or higher is sounding more natural, which is to say more like a native speaker.

There is also great danger in practicing too many IELTS Speaking Exam questions, and practicing these too often.

This could actually make your performance worse on the test, because you’ll sound robotic and, probably, bored.

So, try one or both of the activities below. Replace your focused IELTS Speaking practice with them, and develop your skills from another angle!

Activity #1- Use Creative Writing Prompts

Yes, it’s a writing site! (You can also use it to develop writing fluency!)

Every day, you should be talking out loud, to yourself or someone else, in English.

Try answering 2-3 of the prompts on this page every morning! Just say the first things that come to mind, in English (of course).

This will help you start to think in English as well!

Don’t worry about vocabulary or grammar– literally just say the first ideas that come to mind.

Activity #2- Answer Job Interview Questions

A list of job interview questions may have some overlap with IELTS Speaking Exam questions, but not much.

Again, as with the first activity, just say the first thing that comes to mind, and try not to worry about vocabulary and grammar.

Remember the purpose of these two activities are to develop fluency and spontaneity!
