Furniture Vocabulary for IELTS

Couch/sofa

Loveseat– short couch for only 2 people

Coffee table– table in front of couch

Ottoman– a footrest, often with a top that opens for inside storage (etymology of the word “ottoman”)

Rocking chair– chair that rocks back and forth

Recliner/lazy boy– super comfortable chair that can recline

Dining room table/kitchen table– table you eat at, in dining room or kitchen

Bedside table/nightstand– small table next to your bed

Roll top desk– desk with a cover that slides up and down, usually hiding little shelves behind it

Hide-a-bed– bed that folds up into the wall
