IELTS Energy 534: Beware of This Cambridge Writing Site

Today you’ll learn if a Cambridge writing site will help you prepare for IELTS.

Many candidates waste a great deal of time running all around the internet, looking for free resources.

It’s hard to know if these sites are actually helping you, or harming you.

One of our students posted in our course’s closed Facebook group asking about a Cambridge site called writeandimprove.com.

He began to use the free tool on there to check his writing.

So, as he’s a student in our course and I answer all 3 Keys student questions, I tested this site out myself.

First of all, this is typing essays and not writing by hand, so it’s not test valid for IELTS.

Instead, you should get IELTS Answer Sheets and hand write all your essays on those.

Next, I tried it out and typed a quick essay out to submit for ‘feedback’.

Basically, the only feedback you’ll get is about grammar and spelling.

You don’t get any feedback about Cohesion/Coherence, Task Achievement, or improving the level of your vocabulary.

There is no human looking at your essay. It’s basically the same as you’ll get from Microsoft Word.

I even took out all my linking words and pronoun references, and the site did not say anything about it!

This is huge waste of time for IELTS essay practice!

As far as grammar goes, I recommend sticking to 3 structures, such as conditionals and relative clauses.

Try not to have more than two clauses per sentence, so you’ll have fewer errors and still fulfill the requirement for including varied sentence structures.

If you want high Writing scores, you must learn what the examiner needs to see for high scores, in each category.

Then, you have to put in the time to build your IELTS knowledge and skills.

Using free websites that are not specifically for IELTS, or are run by non-native speakers, will not help you.

However, our course, The 3 Keys IELTS Success System, is guaranteed to raise your scores! If you don’t see a score increase after completing our program, we’ll refund your course fee as well as pay for your exam!
