Today we present you with three 2018 challenges, to rev up your IELTS improvement!

three 2018 challenges

One way to stay motivated, is to get a ‘quick win‘, so these activities will build your momentum and provide you with quick wins in English.

Put one or more of these challenges in your schedule next week, and, once you’ve completed them, you’ll know you’re ready to prepare for IELTS!

Challenge #1: Listening

Listen to 2 hours of a native speaker talking, 3 days in one week- that’s 6 hours of listening!

This has to be without visuals, to make it more IELTS valid.

Audio books and podcasts are the best for this.

Our podcast recommendations: a recent interview with Ben and Jerry (of ice cream fame!). It’s on the show called How I Built This.

That program is hosted by Guy Raz, who also hosts a podcast for younger folks called Wow in the World, and it’s about science. It’s super energetic and fun!

One further recommendation is Doughboys, featuring 2 comedians and a famous guest who try different fast food every week and discuss the restaurant and the meals. It’s hilarious!

Challenge #2: Speaking

Speak out loud to yourself for 30 minutes, 5 days a week.

You can split this up throughout the day as well.

Narration is a great technique here.

Or, you could apply our Speaking Part 2 strategy of before/during/after. One day, talk about the past. The next, explore the present. Then, another day, talk about your future goals. Stay positive!

Challenge #3: Writing

Write three full pages, 3 days a week.

What can you fill the pages with? Try writing a short story! You can start with an idea from Creative Writing Prompts.

Decide what time, each day, that you will dedicate to these challenges. Put it in your schedule!
