Do you think that native speakers always score highly on the IELTS Speaking exam?

Today, you’ll get one story of a native speaker who sank her IELTS Speaking score.

Apparently, she had not prepared at all for the exam; therefore, she did not know how to satisfy examiner requirements.

In Part 1, she gave many one word answers. This kills all four category scores.

Always answer in complete sentences in Part 1!

Then, in Part 2, she was asked to talk about a song. However, when it was her turn to speak and the 2 minutes had begun, she said, “I don’t listen to music. I don’t know what to say.”

Subsequently, she wasn’t able to fill the 2 minutes. Then, she got flustered and frustrated, and grew a bit despondent.

Furthermore, as the Part 3 topic is linked to Part 2, all the questions in the last part were about music. She still didn’t have much to say.

Her Pronunciation and Grammar scores would still be high, even though she didn’t speak enough. However, her Fluency and Vocabulary scores were very low. It would have been very hard for the examiner to even give her 6’s for these categories.
