There are certain question types that IELTS Part 2 questions follow: describing events / experiences, describing people, describing places, or describing objects.

Talking fluently and impressively for 2 minutes is difficult, but accomplishing this when describing an object is exceedingly hard.

Regardless of the question type, you need a strategy to organize your answer, and you should try and tell a story in the last minute.

Watch the video, and take notes on:

  • How I introduce my answer
  • How I organize my answer
  • Linking words / transition phrases
  • Vocabulary
  • Specific examples

In this answer, I follow this strategy:

1. Describe object
2. Explain why I want to buy it

I chose to talk about around-the-world plane tickets I want to buy for my son and I, and that choice leads easily into telling a story about future travel.

Then, it’s your turn to practice!

Take notes on your ideas for this topic for one minute, and then talk for two minutes.

Remember, for higher fluency scores, you want to be interrupted by the examiner, so it seems like you could keep talking. That’s fluency!
