remarkably communicate culture ieltsToday you’ll learn a simple and fun activity that will help you remarkably communicate about your culture on your next IELTS Exam.

This activity idea was brought up by a student in our last Facebook Live class- every Thursday at 12 pm, PST, Portland, OR time!

We were discussing writing fluency. Everyone talks about speaking fluency, but writing fluency is also a skill you need on IELTS.

This is, simply put, your ability to communicate your ideas clearly, in English, while writing. It’s the ease with which your ideas can flow onto the paper.

This awesome student said that he translates folktales from his culture into English.

I love this as an IELTS preparation activity because you are always asked questions, in Speaking and Writing, about your culture/hometown/country/traditions.

There are four ways this interesting and motivating exercise will benefit you on your next IELTS Exam:

1. Develop writing fluency

As noted, this is your ability to be comfortable and confident communicating your ideas on paper, in English.

2. Develop speaking fluency

After you have written out the story, read it out loud. Focus on your expressive intonation, according to the events and feelings contained in the tale.

3. Learn vocabulary that you WILL USE ON IELTS

You will definitely be asked to communicate some sort of information about your culture/country/city in IELTS Speaking Parts 1 and 3, and possibly Part 2.

Be ready with interesting, descriptive vocabulary!

4. Learn ideas for Speaking and Writing

You can use these ideas you are consuming and communicating on the Speaking Exam, as well as for specific and impressive support in IELTS Writing Task 2.

Example questions to practice using these ideas and vocabulary words:

Part 1: What is your favorite traditional dish from your country?

Part 2: Describe an historic place in your country.

Part 3: What is the most important national celebration in your country?

First, try to translate at least two traditional folktales or fairy tales into English.

Then, use the vocabulary and ideas to answer the sample questions above.

What folktale did you choose?
