Task Response: IELTS Task 2

  • All parts of the question (all key ideas) must be addressed in your essay in a balanced way.
  • You must support your ideas with clear, specific details and examples.
  • The examiner must be able to clearly identify your opinion on the topic.
  • All of your ideas must clearly connect to the test question. Don’t wander off topic!
  • Don’t copy the test question.

*Note: You will lose points if you do not write at least 150 words in Task 1 and 250 words in Task 2.

However, this doesn’t mean the more words the better! Limit yourself to writing 150-180 words in Task 1, and 250-280 in Task 2.

    2. support it with the key numbers / the most important information from the graph / chart / diagram / map(s)
    3. paraphrase the test Q

    2) IELTS GENERAL TASK ACHIEVEMENT (1) – 150 / 180 words

    1. cover all 3 bullet points in a balanced way
    2. use appropriate tone of your letter

    TASK RESPONSE (2) – 250 / 280 words

    1. address all parts / key ideas of the Q in an organized way
    2. support them with clear , specific details & examples
    3. identify your opinion on the topic
    4. connect to the test Q , don’t wander off
    5. paraphrase with synonyms or parallel expressions
