Did you know that what you talk about helps increase your Pronunciation and Fluency scores?

The biggest difference between getting a 6 and getting a 7 for Pronunciation is using “natural pronunciation features”. These include intonation and stress, showing emotion and feeling in your voice. The more natural you sound, the higher your score.

This does not mean that you have no accent from your first language. In fact, you still can have an accent and get an 8 for Pronunciation.

An IELTS 6 candidate sounds like a nervous student. The examiner can understand them, but they still sound like a nervous student. Perhaps they even sound bored.

An IELTS 7 or 8 candidate sounds interested in what they are saying.

To score highly in Pronunciation and Fluency on the IELTS Speaking exam, you need to sound confident, relaxed and natural. The trick to doing this is to try and talk about topics that are personal to you- topics that bring out your passion and emotions. This increases your Fluency score as well, as you can add more specific details.

In today’s video, see two example Speaking Part 3 answers that exhibit this strategy.

Also, learn about an activity you can do for homework to practice this strategy, and raise your score. This activity has helped people score an 8 on their IELTS Speaking exam.
