Much of the first half of my career was spent in Taipei, Taiwan, and now I reside and teach in Portland, Oregon.

Whether I’m teaching test preparation or conversation, I believe that the best way to learn is by using new information in fun and motivating contexts.

In my free time, I enjoy playing indoor and outdoor soccer, as well as riding bikes and watching movies with my husband and young son.

The Deadliest Language Crutches on the IELTS Speaking Test

On the IELTS Speaking test there are filler words that we want to avoid in order to get a 7 or higher.

Those words include “um,” “like,” and “uh.”

Even though native speakers use the words in everyday conversation all of the time, you will get marked down if you use them during the Speaking test.
