IELTS Energy 391: An Honest Look at Your Lack of IELTS Preparation

Today we’re helping you to be honest about your (possible) lack of solid IELTS preparation, and get you on the right track!honest look lack IELTS preparation

We had an email from a student who is drowning in his IELTS studies (paraphrased from original)

I feel frustrated. I’m trying to follow the 60 day road map, but I’ve been in the course for 3 months and am only on day 17 of the study plan. I’m very busy, with my job and family. I’m extremely stressed out. I have a lot of issues with grammar. I also listen to three or four of your podcasts every day. I’m looking for help from a tutor, but I can’t afford one. I haven’t set an exam date yet.

Tip #1: Follow the road map instead of the podcast

Our podcast is fantastic for tips and parts of strategies, but if you’re in a course, spend your time there.

You need to schedule your time wisely, and not just stick to the easy stuff.

Listen to the podcast 3 times a week, as it is published, but the rest of your available time must be spent with solid IELTS learning and practice.

Tip #2: Schedule your time wisely

Take a realistic look at your schedule, and carve out 30 minutes in the morning and at lunch for IELTS studies.

Then, also schedule a good hour at night.

Tip #3: Stop worrying about grammar

This is a time-waster.

Many students waste a lot of time and effort worrying about small grammar points that won’t increase their scores.

In the course, we give you the sentence structures you need in writing, and the linking words you need in Writing and Speaking. This is all the grammar you need.

We always tell you that you can’t ‘game the system’ on the IELTS Exam. The same advice is true for our road map! Just follow the guidance, and don’t jump around or skip activities.

Tip #4: Spend time on the most challenging skills

If listening is easy for you, but speaking is difficult, than dedicate more time to speaking practice.

Get out of your comfort zone!
