IELTS Energy 366: Misha’s IELTS Exam Experience

mishas ielts exam experience

Today we’ll talk to a 3 Keys student, Misha, who just took the IELTS Exam. Listen and learn about a real student’s IELTS experience!

When he showed up to the exam, there were about 200 people there to take the IELTS Exam.

It doesn’t matter whether you are taking the Academic or the General, all IELTS candidates sit together. The invigilators know which test you are taking and will give you the appropriate exam.

The only differences are that General candidates will receive different Reading and Writing papers.

Writing

First of all, he said that the writing templates from the course helped a great deal on the exam.

The question for General IELTS Task 1 was about someone who had stolen documents from him. He had to write a letter to his boss about this situation.

Misha and I had worked hard on this letter. Misha learned to write very specific, creative details about each bullet point. Each bullet point was focused on in its own paragraph.

Task 2 was about how sporting events connect to international relations.

Since Misha had the templates and necessary linking words from the course, it felt easy for him to write this essay.

Speaking

Misha is not so sure about his Speaking Exam results, but he thinks he got a 6.5 or 7 on this part. [UPDATE: Misha did get a 7 for Speaking!]

In Speaking Part 2, he had to talk about a favorite dish he had tried. He was able to fill the whole 2 minutes, but he’s not sure about his organization because he was trying to make something up while he was talking.

Here’s a tip for your Speaking Exam, students: Only make something up if you have to, or if you really cannot think of any examples.

Always talk about a real memory if you can, as this will always be easier, and lead to better scores for Fluency/Coherence, Vocabulary and Pronunciation.
