IELTS Energy 269: Four Phrasal Verbs to Make Your Score Into a Solid 9

IELTS 9 speaking phrasal verbs

Today you’ll get four English phrasal verbs that will push your score up to a solid 9!

On both the Speaking and the Writing you should use phrasal verbs.

It’s more important on the Speaking test but you can use 1 or 2 of them on the Writing.

Even though it’s a formal essay the examiner is still looking for your ability to use idiomatic language.

Here are the phrasal verbs you need for a 9:

  • To make something up: This means to create a new idea that isn’t true.
  • To make do with something: To get by or to have something that is sufficient.
  • To make over: This is used more as a noun. We say “to get a makeover.” This means that you change your look.
  • To make into: When something transforms into something else. Here is an example: “Having this person in my life made me into a more confident person.”
